DEFENDING RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

Preamble

Religious freedom and the right to conscience are foundational to American identity. These rights protect the ability of individuals to live according to their beliefs, whether religious or secular. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees that government will neither establish nor interfere with religion. This promise safeguards a pluralistic society where mutual respect can flourish. The Nationalist Party views both religious freedom and freedom of conscience as essential to upholding the dignity of every individual and strengthening the moral fabric of our nation. When honored and protected, these freedoms serve as a source of social cohesion and shared purpose—reinforcing our national unity.

Equal Liberty in a Shared Nation

We affirm the right of every American to live according to their conscience—whether their beliefs are religious, secular, agnostic, or atheist. These freedoms are not privileges; they are inalienable rights guaranteed by the Constitution and essential to the dignity of the individual. Our nation’s strength lies in its ability to unite people of diverse beliefs under a common framework of laws, traditions, and civic responsibility.

The Nationalist Party opposes any government action that endorses or suppresses any particular religion or set of beliefs. It is not the role of the state to dictate personal morality. Each individual must be free to make moral decisions aligned with their values, without coercion or discrimination. Upholding this freedom of conscience for all reinforces mutual respect, strengthens social cohesion, and ensures every citizen can contribute fully to our shared future.

The Role of Public Institutions and Government Neutrality

Public institutions—including schools, courts, and public offices—must uphold the principle of neutrality and refrain from endorsing or promoting religious beliefs. The government’s responsibility is to ensure that individuals are free to practice their religion or conscience without interference or coercion. Neutrality does not mean hostility to belief; it means protecting space for all beliefs. This equal treatment ensures that no citizen is marginalized, and that all are empowered to participate fully in civic life.

Religious and Secular Freedom in the Public Sphere

Religious freedom does not end in private life—it extends into the public sphere. Every individual has the right to express their beliefs openly, whether in the workplace, community, or media. At the same time, public institutions must not endorse or favor any particular belief system. This balance ensures a public square that is open to all—religious, secular, or otherwise—and encourages meaningful dialogue rooted in liberty, justice, and shared civic values. Such openness cultivates trust, reinforces social bonds, and builds the kind of cohesion necessary for a strong and unified nation.

Political Rhetoric and Religious Identity

The Nationalist Party rejects the use of religion or religious identity as a tool in political rhetoric. Public servants are free to hold and express personal religious beliefs, but these beliefs must never be exploited to divide voters or manipulate political outcomes. Instead, political discourse should center on shared principles and a collective vision for national progress. We believe leadership must be guided by integrity, respect, and a commitment to the common good—values that transcend religious differences and serve all Americans.

Conclusion

Defending religious freedom and the right to conscience is not only a constitutional duty—it is a unifying force. These rights safeguard the moral autonomy of the individual while reinforcing the shared values that hold our society together. The Nationalist Party believes that by preserving the separation of church and state, ensuring the equal protection of all citizens, and promoting mutual respect, we strengthen both our national unity and our civic character. In doing so, we honor the enduring American promise of liberty and justice for all.
